The timing is perfect, I need a card for a friend who's been challenged with the devastating effects of ALS.  We have a group of friends providing meals via "Meal Train"; tomorrow's my turn and I need a card to go with the meal.  This is what I've created using materials found in our newest bi-monthly catalogue.  I love the Craft With Heart Cardmaking subscription for the inspiration I get.  So this month, I'm switching up a couple cards from the kit and creating a unique card for Ali. We know her hope is in Christ and she will once again be able to sing, no longer in the Whatcom Chorale, but in heaven's choir. The first symptom she noticed was the loss of ability to sing. We grieve with her and her family. We miss hearing her voice, her laughter, and pray daily for God's mercy.
Close-up to show the clear shimmer - I couldn't get it to show the flowers
and the butterfly at the same time.  Love the butterfly, just couldn't leave him out!

Paper:  Daisy Meadows
Cardstock: White Daisy
I used the stamp set from the cardmaking subscription
"Sending Many Prayers Your Way"
Also used the heart shaker supplies found in the subscription.
Stamp set with the flowers and butterfly is Daisy Meadows Scrapbooking Stamp + Thin Cuts
Colors for the butterfly and flowers are
Ink Oxide: Picked Raspberry and Spiced Marmalade (out of stock- returning TBD)
Clear shimmer brush on the butterfly and flowers.
Color inside the heart, Mint, added with a sponge dauber - with the very light circular touch. - multiple repetitions.
Inks: flowers and butterfly (Intense Black)
and Sentiment (Peacock).

I was stumped with this challenge, all I could imagine is changing the wood to look like metal by embossing the wood shape; so that's what I did!!  The wood shapes take well to coloring with markers, shimmer brush, inking them, so, why not alter the wooden shape with embossing powder!?            I'm eager to see the other "Altered Wooden Shapes."
Items used
  • Daisy Meadows-stamp and thin cuts - Z3932
  • Peacock Feathers Distress Oxide - Z3833

Here we Go!

I created a Gate Fold Shutter Card for my sister who's been living alone, in her condo, faithfully staying home except for doctor appointments and trips to the grocery store and wearing a mask. She's getting her second vaccine tomorrow and so excited that she will once again be able to attend church and worship in person. She only has TV, no internet, so really very isolated! She's a Champion!!

Gate Fold Card Front

Open to see the shutter reveal a sticker mask that says,
 "I AM SMILING"
Card inside

I saw the shutter card some time ago and it popped up

again as I was recently visiting Pinterest and found great instructions on Lisa's Stamp Studio.z

Here's what I was able to create using the "In This Together" paper, stickers and stamps. I used the lined paper on the outside and the mask paper on the inside with a touch of a Zip-Strip (an extra matching strip of paper for a layout or card, with a list of the coordinating card-stock colors on the reverse side.) I stamped and fussy cut, "We Got This", "Social Distance Champion" and "Virtual Hugs", added the stickers, "COVID 19", "Quarantine" and "take a hike".

Embellishments: Wooden heart, Silver Glitter GEMS colored with the Orange TriBlend marker. If I could have found them, I would have used the "In This Together Dots"! Matching colors in 3 sizes. LOL!!

In This Together Dots

Open the card and the magic happens: the center opens like a shutter to reveal the mask sticker and statement, "I AM SMILING". This card looks complicated, though really is quite easy to put together.

BASE: Nectarine CS cut at 5 1/2 by 8 1/2 & scored at 2 1/8 on one of the short sides, fold to the center to create the gate-fold. The opposite side isn't scored, just fold it to the center so it will meet at the middle of the card.

The center of the card has three parts.

1. The middle panel with a circle cut with the 2 1/2 inch circle die cut. A 2 x 2 scrap under the circle for the sentiment,  between the sentiment and the circle

2. Two V cut shutter mechanism:

cut at 4 x 3 - scored on the short side at 1/2 and the opposite side cut the V from the corners to the middle point of the 4 X 3 paper. overlap the two V cut rectangles so that the scored portion is lined up within the gate folds, apply adhesive to only the 1/2 inch portion, fold down the "gates" onto the glue, hold firmly, when adhered, lift the gates and the "shutter" will open.

Here we go
I decided to create a Double Z-fold Card.
Such a great stamp, so many possibilities, I random stamped the butterfly.  Though, have other ideas, it's a work in progress and I need a 36 hour DAY!!

Second attempt - larger size card (5X7)
to accommodate the large butterfly
Also decided to ink the butterfly using
Ink Oxides

Materials:
Paprika and White Daisy cardstock
 Intense Black Ink
The White Daisy Z fold card measures 7" X 10-1/2"
scored at 2-3/4, 5-1/2.

The smaller inserted Z card measures
4" x 9" scored at 3" and 6"
To create a contrast, I colored the butterfly using
Distressed Oxide inks: mixed "Mustard Seed" with "Candied Apple" to emphasize the larger flowers creating the Paprika tone and colored around them with Peacock Feathers
I wasn't happy with my first attempt.
I needed a larger card
4 1/4 X 5 1/2 just wasn't large enough
for that lovely butterfly!
No photo description available.
