Welcome to the CTMH Technique Blog Hop
The theme for the July CTMH Technique Blog Hop is "Magically Masked". There are a variety of masking techniques and I'm excited to see the creative application of this technique that we will find on this hop inspired by the "Magically Masked" theme .
If you are coming from Haley Dyer's blog, you are on the right track. In case you get lost, you can get a complete list of participants at the bottom of Melissa Robinson's blog.
This month we have 10 Close to My Heart Consultants sharing their
creations using the "Magically Masked" theme. To enjoy this hop is quite simple to do - just
click on the link at the bottom of the post on each blog to move to the
next one. Here we go!
I'm loving our July SOTM house and balloons; I just need to add a sentiment like "Enjoy the Adventure"! I'm traveling and couldn't finish this before I left and packed it half finished to complete it on time. It's hard to work with limited supplies and missing supplies that I thought I packed, but I love seeing what others do and love the creative challenge to join others in a theme and see all the different results. If you aren't participating, think of joining us in the future.
There are so many different ways and reasons to mask.
For my card I actually used three "Masks".
1. I stamped the two balloons from the July SOTM and the stamped it again on scrap computer paper to make the "cut out" mask to cover and protect the first two balloons and then stamped more balloons, moving the scrap cutout balloons as needed to get a cluster of balloons. SOOOOO much faster to create a balloon cluster that fussy cutting them like I did in the SOTM post.2. After coloring the balloons, using the color pallet for the Central Park paper, Glacier, Poppy, Willow, Bashful, and Lemon, I covered the balloons with liquid glass to "mask" the balloons when I inked the clouds. After inking over the liquid glass, quickly wipe the ink off the balloons before it dries.
(You can also use rubber cement or a masking liquid over the balloons. After you've inked the clouds cover them with rubber cement or masking fluid, let it dry, do your stamping and then it is easily removed by simply rubbing it off with your finder or a dry cloth. Clear embossing powder is another medium that works to mask the balloons so you can ink the clouds, after inking the clouds you can actually remove the heat embossed "mask" by covering it with computer paper and ironing it. The clear embossing melts and is absorbed by the computer paper, leaving the original matte watercolor look.
3. You can also mask with painter's tape, sticky notes, or washi tape to create straight lines. I used sticky notes over the border dot stamps which was also from the July SOTM.
The final masking was, again, a cut/torn computer paper mask for the clouds, I didn't have my sponge daubers, so sponged the clouds with a paper napkin using Glacier Ink - the result isn't what I wanted, but I think it turned out fine.
I enjoy Jennifer McGuire's U-tube instructional videos.
Here is a link to one of her videos on masking.
Now hop on over to Wendy Kessler's Blog to see what kind of fabulous art she's created. Be sure to drop a comment, we enjoy the encouragement. I hope you enjoy the hop.
